Shellakabookee

(Snails in stainless steel)

When we were young children in Ireland, my friends and I used to find snails in our garden and try to get them to extend their horns whilst holding them upside down by their shells. We were told that, if we sang the following song, they would do our bidding.

We sang “Shellaka, shellaka boo-kee, come show your horns, all the boys and girls are coming to see you". It might have taken two or three goes but it always worked – it was amazing! Treasured memories that last a lifetime!!

I have since introduced the song to my grandchildren who are equally intrigued by “performing” snails.
