Autumn Leaf
Autumn brings leaves into closer focus, where we can more easily appreciate their beauty, form and fragility as they lay by our feet.
This sculpture captures the essence of one such leaf (possibly a maple). The design is cut from a sheet of stainless steel and mounted above its own negative profile in the background, on a wooden board. I used the raised nature of tig welding to represent the veins of the leaf and embraced the natural distortion of the welding process to create the undulating forms of the wilting leaf.
This is a wall mounted, low relief sculpture.
