The humble chestnut has intrigued and mesmerised me in equal measure since my early childhood. I remember playing “Conkers” in the school yard with my friends. My battered and often fatally cracked “champion” strung precariously on a shoelace being held aloft for a would-be contender to take their shot in an attempt to win another life and claim my crown.
Sadly, the game has been banned from most schools because of health and safety concerns.
The horse chestnut is one of the most tactile and beautiful natural objects readily available but so often overlooked . I have attempted to capture the splendour of this natural wonder.
